Vintage Vintan automatic alarm mechanichal watch
I am selling an excellently preserved vintage wristwatch with automatic winding and a mechanical alarm function, by the brand Vintan. Vintan was an Italian/Swiss watch brand founded in the 1940s in Perugia, Italy. It was established by Giacomo Facincani, who initially sold gramophones before turning to watchmaking and the sale of wristwatches. His slogan was roughly along the lines of “precise, timeless, elegant.”
The watch is powered by the automatic A. Schild 5008 movement, which features two separate power reserves – one for timekeeping and one for the alarm function. A key characteristic of the AS5008 is that both barrels are wound by wrist movement, i.e. automatically (manual winding is also possible). The upper crown is used to set the time, date, and day of the week, while the lower crown is used to set the alarm and to switch the alarm on and off.
The AS5008 operates at 28,800 A/h, allowing for a very smooth sweep of the seconds hand. Power reserve is approximately 42 hours, while the alarm rings for about 7 seconds when fully wound. The movement contains 17 jewels.
Considering it is a vintage watch, it is still very wearable by today’s standards, with dimensions of 40 × 44 mm (excluding the crowns), which is an ideal size for most wrists.
As mentioned, the watch is in excellent visual condition, and a full service was carried out approximately five years ago. It runs perfectly. The only noticeable flaw is that the luminous material on the hands has completely faded and no longer provides illumination in the dark.
